A STAIRWAY TO THE STARS: THE LEGEND THAT WAS JOHNNY HARTMAN
Rick Starr presents a "Rick's Pix" Actors fund Benefit concert: "A Stairway to the Stars: the legend that was Johnny Hartman". Keith David, Tony-nominated for JELLY'S LAST JAM and co-star of such films as CRASH, THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY, PLATOON, BARBERSHOP and MEN AT WORK sings songs sung by Johnny Hartman, the quintessential romantic balladeer and master of emotional expression. Mostly known only to true jazz lovers, it took a movie soundtrack (THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY), released 12 years after his death, to take Hartman to the top of the charts. Hartman recorded such classics as "Call Me Irresponsible", "Lush Life", "Charade" and "In the Wee Small Hours". Mr. David will be joined by special guest star, Grammy-nominated jazz singer Barbara Morrison who recently opened her own performing arts center in South Central Los Angeles. Musical Director - Frank Owens. Nate Light on Bass. Tom Bowe on Drums. All proceeds will benefit The Actors Fund. Concert will take place at a private home in Studio City on Sunday, May 20th. $25 per person includes refreshments. Doors open at 4:30. Entertainment will begin at 5PM.
