Film Distribution For The Independent Film Producer with Jon Bonnell
One of the most important subjects for any independent filmmaker to know about is Distribution. Understanding the distribution channel early in the filmmaking process will help you do a better job of planning, scheduling, budgeting and recruiting resources. Developing a good relationship with potential distributors will help you in every step along the way to producing your next film. This intensive seminar is worth many times its cost in the knowledge you will gain!
Your host, Jon Bonnell, is a seasoned sales agent, producer and filmmaker. As a producer he has successfully delivered and sold five feature films and 26 episodes of television. In addition he has three feature projects currently slated for 2012. As a Sales Agent/Distributor he has been responsible for literally thousands of hours of programming and has written a book on Independent Film Distribution called "I Gotta Do What?!!!! a primer for independent film distribution." In fact he has opened his own Sales Agency this year. It's been almost two years since he last presented this topic for IFP/Phoenix and many things have changed in the industry.
What Will Be Covered Development - You've got an idea for a film. Will it sell? Preproduction - Help your odds at making money before you shoot a frame. Production - What to do, and more precisely what not to do, when shooting your film to help close that sale. Post Production - You need to plan and save for post or you won't make money on your sale Traditional vs. DIY - The Case For Each. And if we have time, we'll look at successful and not so successful marketing plans for films, deliverable requirements, and set aside time for your questions. Come and learn from Jon and the other attendees about successfully distributing your film.
