Judgement at Nuremberg
On Saturday, January 30 at 7 pm we bring you "Judgement at Nuremberg", following International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27th.
Directed by Stanley Kramer, this landmark film starring Spencer Tracy, Burt Lancaster, Richard Widmark, Marlene Dietrich, Maxmilian Schell, Judy Garland, Montgomery Clift, William Shatner and more, was nominated for a staggering 11 Oscars in 1962, with Maxmilian Shell taking home the Best Actor award and Abby Mann the Best Screenplay award.
Many of the actors involved in this film did so for a fraction of the usual salary because they felt the subject matter was so important. In fact, the film was selected by the Library of Congress in 2013 for preservation in the National Film Registry.
"Judgement at Nuremberg" takes place three years since the most important Nazi leaders had already been tried. This trial is about 4 judges who used their offices to conduct Nazi sterilization and cleansing policies. Retired American judge, Dan Haywood, played by Spencer Tracy, has a daunting task ahead of him. The Cold War is heating up and no one wants any more trials as Germany, and Allied governments, want to forget the past. But is that the right thing to do is the question that the tribunal must decide.
Tickets are $7.00 per person general admission and available online, at Seastrand (919 Linden Ave., cash or check only), and at the theater box office prior to showtime.
This film does not have an official MPAA rating, but would have a strong PG-13 rating by today's standards for the graphic holocaust images and mild profanity. Run time for this film is 186 minutes.
