In the Heat of the Night
Saturday, January 16 we bring you the 1967 Best Picture winner, "In the Heat of the Night", directed by Norman Jewison and starring Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger, who received the Best Actor nod in 1967.
Sidney Poitier plays Detective Virgil Tibbs who is caught up in the racial tension of the US South when he is arrested after the murder of a prominent businessman. Tibbs was simply waiting for his next train at the station in Sparta, Mississippi and the confusion is soon resolved, but when local police chief Gillespie (Rod Steiger) learns that Tibbs is the Philadelphia PD's number one homicide expert, he reluctantly asks for his assistance. Both leading roles are played masterfully by Poitier and Steiger, supported by Warren Oates and Lee Grant.
Tickets are $7.00 general admission and available online, at Seastrand (919 Linden Ave., by cash or check only) and at the theater box office prior to showtime.
This film does not have an official MPAA rating, but would have a PG-13 rating by today's standards for language and some violence. Run time for this film is 109 minutes.
