Pacific Edge Voices Sing-along: Celebrating Cuba
Pacific Edge Voices has been captivating audiences around the world for 36 years with diverse a capella repertoire of all genres. In June 2013, Music Director Lynne Morrow's exploration into music of the African diaspora, culminating in our unforgettable musical exchange trip to Cuba, transported us to new heights.
We began our 2014-2015 season with a new name and new inspiration to be cultural ambassadors as members of a global community, building relationships and bridging differences and divides through song. In an era that is more and more virtual and impersonal, we also embraced a vision to get down off the stage and co-create transformational musical experiences with and among you.
We launched our Sing-along workshop series in November 2014 from this new vision, and with a desire to share our appreciation of African American Spirituals, songs rooted deeply in US American history. How thrilling it was to sing as a community together, 100+ voices strong. Based on your strong response, we are excited to expand the series this season!
For our Sing-along workshop coming up January 23, we are excited to celebrate US-Cuba relations with popular and sacred Cuban songs, chants, and rhythms. We'll be joined by our Cuban friend and fellow artist, Erick Barbería, master of batá drumming and folklórico song and dance. Erick will lead us in a Yoruba chant from the Santería tradition, and accompany with drumming and dance.
