ABOUT THE BAND:
What do Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, John Mayer, Ray Charles, Diana Ross, Bruce Springsteen, Aretha Franklin, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, The Allman Brothers, and The Original Blues Brothers Band have in common? They have all called on members of The Funk Filharmonik to perform with them!
Collectively and individually the members of "The Funk Band" have worked over the past 30 years with a who's who list of rock, pop, blues, jazz, funk, soul, and R&B icons as well as with giants of jazz and Latin music including Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Gloria Estefan, Willie Colon, Freddie Hubbard, Janet Jackson, Lionel Hampton, Hall and Oats, Dave Valentin, Jonathan Butler, the Brecker Brothers, Mariah Carey, Steve Cropper, Bootsy Collins, and Tower of Power. At any given moment, these guys might be off performing as a band, a horn section, a rhythm section or as individual players in the far corners of the world playing such diverse settings as a midnight sun jazz festival in Sweden, a spiritual drum and dance ceremony in West Africa, even a presidential inauguration on the White House lawn! They have lent their talents to countless TV and Broadway shows, movie soundtracks, commercial jingles and educational clinics. The band also prides itself in the numerous benefits they and their loyal following of "funksters" have supported for humanitarian and environmental causes.
For the past 30 years, The Funk Filharmonik, Long Island's foremost high energy, eleven piece horn driven band, has been a magnet for musicians and music lovers of all stripes, attracting generations of loyal fans. Their big, fat, fiery five piece horn section and chunky tight rhythmic vibe appeals to listeners and dancers alike and has influenced countless local bands. The camaraderie, joy and sheer energy that exudes from the stage at every Funk Filharmonik show is highly contagious.
