Gold Rush Dinner
This multi-course dinner will explore and celebrate the many culinary traditions that can be traced to the Gold Rush.
The menu will include: - our take on hangtown fry, a delectable dish of eggs, bacon, and oysters first created by a saloon cook for a miner who struck it rich and demanded the most expensive, luxurious meal possible; - smoked rabbit pasties, to highlight the role of wild game in the Gold Rush diet and to honor the many Cornish cooks who emigrated to California to find work; - a salad of foraged greens, because wild plants were the only fresh produce available to early prospectors; - miner's cassoulet, a hearty dish of heirloom beans, potatoes, and pork, all of which were staples in the mining camps; and - fried apple pies à la mode, because apple pies made with dried apples were a common (and generally detested) dessert in mining camps. We think you'll love our rendition of this classic.
We also have a few other special treats and surprises in store for you, and we'll even send you home with fresh-baked biscuits to enjoy for breakfast the next morning!
We are happy to offer a vegetarian menu for this dinner (think smoked mushroom pasties)--just let us know when you purchase your tickets if you'd prefer this option.
