Michael Louis Smith Quartet
Born and raised in the Capital Distict, Michael-Louis Smith is highly regarded for his prowess as a jazz artist, but his interests lie in all genres of music. He has recently written and recorded a suite that tells a story of the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Other recent works include "The Folk Suite," a collection of folk songs that depict the scenes of autumn from his childhood, and his latest released jazz album "Portrait of MLS". This January marked the tenth anniversary of his Hot House Quartet. Formed through the Boston and NYC jazz scenes, this quartet now takes the Caffe Lena stage to celebrate ten years of music and friendship. They'll be presenting new, cutting edge sounds, selections from "Haiti Suite," and will revisit some rarely played pieces from past albums.
