Changing Mindsets: Creative Strategies Using Applied Improvisation
This activity is approved by the New York State Education Department's Board for Social Work to provide 4 contact hours of Continuing Education
This course will explore of the ways that mindset impacts behavior change and learning. A mindset is a mental habit that develops in response to emotional states, individual preferences, and social interactions, and consists of belief, a sense of where we belong and brain plasticity. In this workshop, Applied Improvisation games and exercises will be used to explore the elements of mindset and the skills that promote sustainable shifts in thinking, feeling and behavior
You will learn:
The cognitive and emotional dimensions of mindset;
Thinking and relationship skills that promote development of the "growth" mindset; The connections between development of skills and competencies associated with the "growth" mindset to therapeutic and learning goals;
The 4 resiliencies associated with the "growth" mindset;
The components of creative, experiential exercises that specifically target the development of a "growth" mindset;
INSTRUCTOR: Jude Treder-Wolff is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Group Psychotherapist and Registered Music Therapist, a writer/performer and trainer/consultant. She is President of Lifestage, Inc a consulting and training company that designs and facilitates arts-based training seminars, workshops and groups for professional and personal development. She facilitates monthly applied improvisation workshops for clinicians and educators on Long Island at Lifestage, Inc, and integrates applied improvisation and storytelling into training seminars she designs for corporate wellness programs and staff development workshops for a wide range of organizations, including the New York Public Library, Brookhaven National Labs, Pederson-Krag, Time/Warner Cable, Board Of Cooperative Educational Services, YMCA Family Services, Suffolk County Dept. of Mental Health, Independent Group Home Living, The Multiple Sclerosis Society, Therapeutic Recreation Association, State University at Buffalo Summer Institute of Continuing Education, South Oaks Continuing Education and New York State's Office of Substance Abuse Services.
