The Growth Mindset In Learning and Change
This activity is approved by the New York State Education Department's Board for Social Work to provide 4 contact hours of Continuing Education
Research shows that a shift in mindset is the best predictor of sustainable, long-range change in behavior. "Mindsets" are the mental frames that streamline choices about how to behave and where one "fits" in a social environment. A mindset is a mental habit that is often not fully conscious and is developed in response to emotional states, individual preferences, and social interactions. It combines belief, emotional investment and personal experiences within an environment.
Behavior change does not necessarily produce a change in mindset, but a change in mindset will produce a sustainable change in behavior. An individual's mind set has been found to be a powerful driver of perceptions about self and others as well as one's capabilities and place in the world. "They guide the whole interpretation process," according to researcher Carol Dweck, author of Mindset: The New Psychology of Success. Research in successful health-related behavior change shows that shifting a mindset involves exploration of prevailing attitudes about the health condition or behavior pattern, beliefs about one's own vulnerability and specific skills for prevention. Shifts in mindset can occur rapidly through a combination of cognitive and emotional heightening combined with social interaction. This training will utilize exercises and games specifically designed to demonstrate the concepts identified in the research about mindset and techniques that can be used in a variety of settings with clients.
This training will utilize experiential Applied Improvisation techniques and exercises that integrate skill development with demonstration of specific concepts, combined with in-depth group discussion.
You will learn: The connection between interpersonal skills and the "growth" mindset;
The differences between the "fixed" and "growth" mindset and their impact on the change and learning process;
