Helen Macdonald at the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center
Boswell and the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center are excited to welcome the award-winning author of H is for Hawk, Helen Macdonald, to the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center (located at 1111 E. Brown Deer Road in Milwaukee) for a ticketed talk and signing (complete with demonstration--she'll be appearing with Sky Walker and Nicco, two hawks from the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center). Each ticket includes admission for one, a book, and all taxes and fees: attendees can choose a ticket that includes a hardcover copy of Macdonald's new poetry collection, Shaler's Fish ($27) or a paperback copy of her memoir H is for Hawk ($21). Tickets are available through the Brown Paper Tickets website, event #TBA. For both ticket types, we'll be donating $5 per ticket to Schlitz Audubon Nature Center.
Before Helen Macdonald chronicled the experience of adopting a goshawk in her bestselling book H is for Hawk, she was a poet. With a masterful ear for musical phrasing as well as an utterly unique way of seeing the earth around her, in Shaler's Fish, she writes deft, daring verse; her language is melodic and opulent while her observations are shrewd and incisive. Lush, lyrical, and vibrantly evocative, the poems in Shaler's Fish parse images from the landscape and then turns inward to consider the human consciousness that witnesses, processes, and manipulates the landscape. From an outstanding literary innovator, Shaler's Fish is a joyous celebration of the natural world and a profound meditation on being alive in it.
About the Author: Helen Macdonald is the author of the award-winning, New York Times bestselling book H Is for Hawk. She is a writer, poet, illustrator, historian, and naturalist who lives in Cambridge, England.
