Leon Bibb: A Celebration of Life
Legendary performer, Leon Bibb, passed away in October 2015. He was 93.
Leon, was born Charles Leon Aurthello Bibb on February 7 1922 in Louisville KY. Leon grew up in Kentucky, lived and worked in New York for many years, and has called Vancouver home since 1969. Leon had a remarkable career including appearing at least ten times on the Ed Sullivan Show and touring with Bill Cosby. In New York, Leon hosted his own talk show on NBC.
In Vancouver, Leon is known for co-producing and performing in the Arts Club Theatre's long-running production of "Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris". In addition, Leon produced and performed in numerous stage and television shows in Vancouver including "One More Stop On The Freedom Train", "Sharing the Music Leon and Eric Bibb in Concert" and "Leon Bibb's A Step Ahead".
Leon founded the anti-racism school program and foundation called "A Step Ahead" and presented to both elementary and secondary school students throughout BC and Canada for twenty years.
Leon is an inductee to the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame, a recipient of the 2002 City of Vancouver Cultural Harmony Award, the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal, the Harry Jerome Lifetime Achievement Award and in 2009, he was made a Member of the Order of British Columbia.
