DePauw Honor Band Concert
Sunday, January 24, 2016 2 P.M. Green Center, Kresge Auditorium
The DePauw Honor Band is made up of outstanding Indiana high school musicians nominated by their directors. Over the course of two days on the DePauw University campus, these talented student musicians rehearse and perform great works for symphonic band and wind ensemble under the baton of Dr. Craig Paré, as well as take part in master classes with the School of Music's renowned applied music faculty. Our annual Honor Band weekend culminates in this closing concert in Kresge Auditorium.
Among the works the students will prepare is one of John Philip Sousa's most famous marches, "The Thunderer," arranged by the legendary conductor Frederick Fennell, especially known for his pyrotechnics and Sousa recordings. Alfred Reed's "Alleluia! Laudamus Te" and Richard Saucedo's "Windsprints," featuring the percussion section, are other highlights of Sunday's concert, which concludes with Michael Kamen's "An American Symphony" from the film "Mr. Holland's Opus."
General admission: $5 Tickets for seniors, youth and all students are free.
