GREAT DISCUSSIONS 2016 -- HOW DO THE WORLD'S MAJOR RELIGIONS AFFECT THE LIVES OF AMERICANS, REGARDLESS OF OUR BELIEFS? -- PAUL WORSHAM 1 Day Ago
Great Discussions 2015 is a highly participatory course designed for those informed and thoughtful people among us who love to engage in real discussion and respectful debate over issues of the day. This course is a forum for exchanging ideas about international affairs and America's place in the world. The group that started Great Discussions 2015 for LLCC sent inquiries to our local Jewish Synagogue, Muslim Mosque, and Buddhist Temple to ask if each would participate in our 2016 discussions that would focus on World Religions. All of these organizations replied to tell us that they'd be happy to meet with our discussion group.
The course plan is to meet with representatives of each of these religions at their place of worship to learn about the principles of their beliefs, and to then discuss what we've learned within the context of these core questions: How are these religious principles practiced around the world and how are we all affected personally? Great Discussions 2016, Part 1 will have 3 two-hour meetings once a month in January, February and March. Again, this is a highly participative course. Please come prepared to research topics, help lead discussions, and otherwise contribute to the exchange of ideas.
The first group meeting will be held on January 21 10am -12noon at Congregation Beth David in SLO. Dates for the other two sessions of this course in February and March are to be determined. While Paul Worsham's education and career focused on consumer electronics marketing, he has a deep and active interest in world affairs and America's place in the world.
This is a three session course. Buying a ticket for this course entitles you to attend all three sessions. Thursdays, January 21, February TBD, March TBD, 10am - 12pm, Congregation Beth David (first session) San Luis Obispo Three Sessions
