Home of the Brave: A Film by Laurie Anderson
Performance artist Laurie Anderson directed this entertaining overview of her stage act, her music, and her unique viewpoints on people and society at large in this concert documentary. A total of 18 numbers are performed by Anderson and her band (which includes guitarist Adrian Belew). Some of the most entertaining moments stem from Anderson's outrageous, witty comments and lyrics, and the inventive bits of business that range from a "drum suit" that transforms her body into a percussive ensemble to her tango with author and occasional collaborator William S. Burroughs. For anyone bored with run-of-the-mill music videos, Home Of The Brave is certainly something different that proves the intelligent, challenging and unconventional doesn't have to be alienating.
