LoEx Presents "Lunacre, Actually"
Lunacre:
Split between Cambridge and London, the enigmatic electro-indie quintet Lunacre, have been working on their debut release since late 2014. They blend a number of influences and call to mind the post-rock, melodic glitch of Alt-J and Radiohead.
Their debut EP, Troupe includes their first single, 'Engine,' well received following a premiere at Clash Magazine: "A new but ambitious project, the group fuse a lust for breaking electronics to a need to hone in on classic songcraft. Somewhere between those two poles, Lunacre emerge. Compared to Vondelpark and Mount Kimbie, there's also a sense of the Bristol sound in here; the intensity of those early Portishead records, for example."
Despite the band's diverse range of influences and experimental soundscapes, Lunacre achieve concise and accessible songwriting, overlaid with melody and harmonies.
The next single, "Shit Picasso," will be released in January 2016 accomanied by a video animated by the group's Ben de Vries.
The band are building a dedicated live fanbase, and this "Lunacre, Actually" show wraps up a hugely exciting year in their development.
The JackAtlas: So new they are barely on the internet, and yet they have played together for 5 years... a post-modern funk band from London. With influences as diverse as Steely Dan and Kool and the Gang by way of Bon Iver and Talking Heads, these nineteen-year-olds have a record collection and sound that belies their years (and young ears).
The group has been writing and recording together since they were kids, from school to university, resulting in super-tight live skills and a fun-filled sophistication. The four piece have developed an original hybrid of contemporary dance-pop, 70s disco and 80's art-funk.
Plus* A rare live performance from electronic musician Channel Island Sound!
