A Workshop in Tahitian Dance with Mahealani Uchiyama
Co-Presented with Summer Stages at Concord Academy.
Experience the enchanting beauty of traditional Tahitian dance as taught by Mahealani Uchiyama. Known as Ori Tahiti, this style of dance is traditionally inspired by island legends. This style of dance stresses intricate hip isolations, grace and stamina. Ori Tahitiʻs dynamic and beautiful choreography is supported by pulsating drums and haunting melodies.

Session I 12 1:00PM - Fundamentals of Ori Tahiti An introduction to the core steps used in Tahitian dance. Recommended for novice dancers interested in learning the form and structure of Tahitian dance, as well as anyone interested in enhancing their Ori Tahiti technique. Session II 1:15 2:15PM - Ahuroa Often referred to as "Tahitian hula", ahuroa is an extremely graceful, feminine and powerful style of dance. Early Bird Tuition (June 27th) : $25 Regular Tuition: $30
Session III 2:30 3:30PM - ʻOteʻa The ʻOteʻa is considered to be the most spectacular of all the Polynesian dances. Accompanied by a drum orchestra and performed in traditional costumes, ʻOteʻa has historically been a symbol of the South Pacific. Early Bird Tuition (June 27th) : $25 Regular Tuition: $30
