Snap on 2&4 w/ Don Aliquo & The Lori Mechem Quartet
On Friday, December 4 at 8:00 pm, the Nashville Jazz Workshop will present its final "Snap on 2&4" performance of 2015. In what has become a December tradition, the concert pairs saxophonist Don Aliquo and pianist Lori Mechem, and this time will feature The Lori Mechem Quartet (Lori, bassist Roger Spencer, drummer Chris Brown, and guitarist Andy Reiss).
Don Aliquo hails from Pittsburgh, where he grew up listening to and learning from the city's jazz legends. Following in the footsteps of his father, a well-respected jazz artist himself, Don spent his formative years performing with many of the regions greats. Fortunately for us, he eventually landed in Tennessee where he is a professor in MTSU's Jazz Studies program, and has a busy schedule teaching, performing, and recording. Aliquo has released Five solo CD's as a leader, and many more in collaboration with his peers, including 2015's "Too Marvelous For Words" with icon Beegie Adair, and "New Ties and Binds," a CD also released this year by the Don Aliquo - Clay Jenkins Quintet. At home in virtually all jazz styles, Don's technical brilliance is matched only by his taste and melodic sense.
Lori Mechem is one of the founders, and Director of Programs and Education, of the Nashville Jazz Workshop. Besides mentoring hundreds of students and running one of the most unique and successful jazz programs in the country, she is also a gifted player and composer. With seven CD's to her credit as a leader, her influences range from Count Basie to Gene Harris to Antonio Carlos Jobim. Her most recent release is the beautiful duo CD with vocalist Sandra Dudley, "All Of My Life."
