FULL AND CLOSED FOR REGISTRATION: 3 HOUR INTRO in OAKLAND with TOM BENTLEY FISHER: CHARACTER TRANSFORMATION and THE PSYCHOLOGY OF MOVEMENT
PSYCHOLOGY OF MOVEMENT Ground-shifting discoveries. Rapid growth and shifts. You will expand your range.
3 HOUR INTRODUCTORY EVENING at JEFFREY BIHR in OAKLAND Please join us for a 3 hour hands-on intro and Q+A with Tom at Jeffrey Bihr Studio in Oakland on Tuesday, Dec 8.
You will meet Tom, stand up and do a solid 90 minutes of work with him, and then hear about his approach, what he believes and where he comes from. Dress for easy movement and bring water.
The work begins with physical exercises - swings - that focus on letting go of what you unconsciously rely on, unlocking resistances you are unaware of, and making physical contact with new levels of creative freedom, all ultimately producing the freedom to take greater risks. The body, not the mind, makes key discoveries to free the artist up quickly, reliably, and deeply. In this short period participants will have the visceral experience of becoming and feeling free in unexpected ways, accessing parts of themselves they usually don't have contact with. Short as the session is, many participants in the past Intro Evening left having seen a difference in themselves and a beginning sense of how the work can change well, everything.
In its full form, which Tom will touch on in discussion, the work delivers ground-shifting discoveries to anyone willing to dive in because it meets each person exactly where they are, right now. This allows for rapid growth and shifts, both personally and artistically.
WHEN: Tuesday, Dec 8, 2015 TIME: 6:30-9:30 WHERE: Jeffrey Bihr Studio, 5390 Miles, Oakland COST: $25
WEAR: Comfortable clothing you can move freely in BRING: Water
BIOGRAPHY: Tom Bentley-Fisher has been the artistic director of five professional theatres, directed over one hundred productions and has taught master and ongoing classes at universities, theater schools and private studios in California, Canada, England and Spain. He began as an actor, training in New York and London with Sanford Meisner and Yat Malmgren, and then performed in London's West End before moving on to directing and teaching. Today Tom works with actors, directors, dancers and writers, conducting workshops and classes on his original approach to character transformation internationally. He is artistic director of Tant per Tant, an international, multi-lingual theater company, which is preparing production for the 2016 Barcelona International Grec Festival and subsequent European tour.
The Laban-Malmgren System of Character Analysis, also called Movement Psychology or Yat's Work, is a unique, methodological approach to massively expanding range and understanding character, self and the world in a way that transforms the individual both personally and professionally. For context, Laban-Malmgren is the tradition that Cate Blanchett, Anthony Hopkins, Peter Brook and Tony Richardson come from, among many others. Tom Bentley-Fisher is one of only a handful of teachers worldwide who are fully trained to teach the full pedagogy. The work offered here is informed by Tom's own journey as a director, writer, teacher, actor and Artistic Director over the past 30+ years. He has instructed well over a thousand performers, writers, directors, dancers and artists in America, Europe and Canada, all united by a desire to see themselves ever more clearly and to use this information to move humanity forward through the arts.
