The Realms Beyond: Thomas Edison and The Necrophone, An illustrated lecture with Philippe Baudouin
Date: Tuesday, January 26th Time: 8pm Admission: $8 Location: Morbid Anatomy Museum, 424 Third Avenue, 11215 Brooklyn NY
Thomas Edison is widely known for more than 1000 inventions including the incandescent lamp, the talking doll, and the phonograph. While biographers have explored many facets of his life and work, they have remained silent about the experiments Edison's later experiments into the field of communication with the dead.
The work of this self-made man in the field of sound reproduction and the occult are symptomatic of a common interest in the voice phenomenon and its electrical double. Join us as we discover the forgotten history of the necrophone, Thomas Edison's most curious invention.
Philippe Baudouin is broadcast director at Radio France (Paris) and essayist. He wrote differents books about Walter Benjamin and sound studies. He's just published a forgotten Thomas Edison's book : "The Realms Beyond" >> http://www.millon.fr/collections/religion/golgotha/edison.html
