NOTE - Stage Werx is now located at 446 Valencia (nr. 16th St.)

ABOUT UNDERGROUND SOUND:
When's the last time a new music series opened in San Francisco, in a theater and devoted itself  to popular music? And rock. And World music and classical music, individuals, ensembles, acoustic, electric--though mostly accoustic cause it's a 70 seat theater. It's like a small concert hall. In the heart of the Mission.

 >>    5 Cent Coffee is a four piece, post modern jug band full of grit and carnival hokum. They play original songs set in the dusty American tradition of traveling circuses and rail riders down on their luck. With soaring vocals, sometimes two accordions, sometimes two ukuleles, washboard and junk percussion, their sound is sometimes big and brash, sometimes soft and mournful. It's always compelling.

>>      Led by composer Jorge Gonzalez, Scala Tympani plays a tantalizing mélange of dulcet melodies intertwined with plucked, struck and bowed strings. It's original chamber music with a hint of Tango. With Jorge Gonzalez  (guitar, melodica), Sonia Caltvedt (flute), Paula Dreyer (piano), Ann Lam (violin), Charith Premawardhana (viola) with Jesse Wolff (cello)

>>    Inspired arrangements of songs by Queen, Lady Gaga, Metallica and Dexy's Midnight Runners performed by four cellists from the SF Conservatory of Music. (Gretchen Claassen, Matthew Linaman, Adam Young and Andres Vera)

>>   Stolen cars, high school football stadiums, ghost hospitals, greasy griddles and onerous trolls populate Tom's revealing, passionate and often very funny songs. With a staggering range of melodic idioms in his repertoire and what's referred to in the music world as "an authentic voice" it's no surprise that Tom has attracted a devoted following. With Mike McMackin (drums), Sonia Caltvedt (flute) and Bruce Pachtman (percussion).
