Greta Matassa Quintet with Susan Pascal on Vibes
Seattle native Greta Matassa is one of the countries most talented and popular jazz singers. With hints of Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday and Carmen McRae, she is increasingly recognized as a unique voice in jazz. Voted "Northwest Vocalist of the Year" in 2009 by Earshot Jazz, this marked the sixth time Matassa received this award in 15 years.
Always a favorite of Port Ludlow audiences, she returns with her quintet in a special holiday matinee concert featuring tunes from "And to All A Good Night," a beautifully recorded and produced album with lead singer Matassa and her co-lead/bassist Clipper Anderson. He'll take a turn on a few songs while guest artist Susan Pascal joins them on vibes.
Matassa's voice has a purity something like June Christy or Chris Connor. The music could perhaps be described as West Coast cool jazz, with them mixing up the rhythms as well. You'll feel the love after an afternoon of familiar holiday classics and some lesser-known but beautiful songs of the season.
