Terra Madre Day at Silvio's
Come celebrate Slow Food's annual Terra Madre Day with us on December 10th at Silvio's! December 10th is the anniversary of the signing of the original Slow Food Manifesto in Italy in 1989, from which the movement for "good, clean and fair food" springs. Uniting people from around the world, this celebration highlights local food traditions and the joy of sharing around the table.
Our Terra Madre Day dinner this year features "Three Generations of the Medoro Family Cooking for a Traditional Italian Holiday: A Slow Food Tour of the Abruzzo Homeland"

A traditional Italian menu will be prepared by three generations of the Medoro Family, with homemade dishes including:
- Assorted Apperitivo
- Chicken Galantina stuffed with pistachio and truffle, from matriarch Josephina Medoro
- Spaghetti all Chittara with Lamb Ragu, by paterfamilias Silvio Medoro
- Parrozzo, almond flavored "Christmas Cake of Abruzzo," made by daughters Manuela and Francesca Medoro
This year marks an important milestone for the Medoro family: 10 years of bringing their Slow Food pizzas with wild-yeasted dough and handmade pastas to Ann Arbor at Silvio's Organic Ristorante e Pizzeria. Silvio's is one of Ann Arbor's best examples of local, seasonal, traditional cooking all year.
In October of 2012, Silvio Medoro was selected as a delegate to represent the United States at the Terra Madre International Conference held bi-annually in Turin, Italy. And each year since, Silvio has hosted a Terra Madre Day dinner to raise awareness of Slow Food traditions, and to support Slow Food Huron Valley in sending future delegates to the Terra Madre gathering.
This year, Slow Food Huron Valley was proud to support Nathan Wells in attending Terra Madre Giovani in Milan, featuring the importance of young farmers from around the globe. Nathan will be attending the Terra Madre Day dinner at Silvio's to describe his experience of the international gathering and the Slow Food ethos at this latest Terra Madre gathering.
