Bethesda Green Luncheon Speaker Series: Hiring and Managing Your First Employees
Hiring and Managing Your First Employees: What the Entrepreneur Needs To Know
Speaker: Keith D. Hudolin, Jackson Lewis P.C.
Hiring, managing, and, when necessary, terminating employees is a critical part of running any business. This is especially true for new start-ups as they put in place policies and procedures for an expanding workforce. Yet start-ups often face the added burden of doing so without a human resources department and without experience in the laws governing discrimination, payment of employees and contractors, non-competition and non-solicitation agreements, workers' compensation, and many other aspects of the employment relationship. This presentation will provide a crash course in the federal, state, and local laws that start-ups must know, and some best practices they should keep in mind, as they hire their first employees and manage an expanding workforce. Keith D. Hudolin is an Associate in the Baltimore office of Jackson Lewis P.C. His practice focuses on employment law, with an emphasis on defending employers in a wide variety of employment-related litigation. He advises clients on employment law compliance, including drafting and reviewing handbooks and other employment policies. Mr. Hudolin has defended clients against allegations of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage and hour violations.
