Suitcase Junket with Zak Trojano
Matt Lorenz is a Vermont-born musician, visual artist and tinkerer. His artistic vision is one of salvaged and repurposed objects, images, and emotions. His innovative junk-percussion constructions and the high craft of his songwriting combine to create a unique entity; his self-taught throat-singing adds a fascinating edge to the sound. "I'm interested in the hidden voices that reside within things," says Lorenz. "The songs stuck inside instruments, the story behind the object, the mysterious weight of a word, the harmonic sequence that's in every note waiting to broken, as light through a prism.
Zak Trojano is a musician and songwriter from New Hampshire. He grew up in the woods and could usually be found fly fishing, or playing music. His father is a drummer, and after work was for loosening his tie and teaching his son about Ginger Baker and Elvin Jones. Zak gravitated towards the guitar and songwriting, primarily because he found it hard to write songs about girls on a drum set (not for lack of trying). His intricate finger-style technique is rooted in those early rhythms. His heroes are John Prine, Chet Atkins, and Tony Williams. Zak has been performing, recording, and writing music professionally for the last 10 years. He has shared studios and stages with his band Rusty Belle, Chris Smither, Kris Delmhorst, Jeffrey Foucault, Peter Mulvey, and many other wonderful artists.
