Who organizes this dinner?
You might be surprised at how many Jews in and around Atlanta you'll find working in food and agriculture; we know that we are. We farm, cook, organize farmers markets, own restaurants, brew beer, run non-profits, plant fruit trees and more. Across the board we are committed to local and sustainable food and building community.
Why do we organize this dinner?
Asking "why" is even a bigger tradition than Chinese food on Christmas! First and foremost we thought it would be fun, and by all accounts everyone had a blast last year. Second, local and sustainable food is important to us, and the dinner is a fun opportunity to share that with our Jewish community here in Atlanta.
Where does the money go from the dinner?
Our goal isn't for this event to be a fundraiser, but we do come out making a little more money than we spend. Last year, all $1,500 earned after expenses went to support Global Growers Network, which connects refugee farmers living in Georgia to local agriculture by training farmers, growing good food, and creating economic opportunities. The money from this year's event will be used for Tu B'shevat fruit orchard plantings at The Epstein School and one other TBD location organized by the Jewish Johnny Appleseed, Robby Astrove.
