Snow Drifts of Snoose Boulevard is presented by Tjärnblom, a Scandinavian-style string band that travels on a modern "Snoose Boulevard Highway" of Swedish, Finnish, and American tunes, old and new, played on nyckelharpas, mandolins, and a harmonium. Members of the band are Joe Alfano, Mary Crimi, Val Eng, and Cheryl Paschke, all of Minneapolis. Tonight's program features music, old and new, expressing the wonders of winter and the melodies of the holiday season. Expect brief intermittent flurries of poetry and historic readings from the boulevard.
Tjärnblom's music has been featured in many settings around town, including the American Swedish Institute, The Bryant-Lake Bowl, and on A Prairie Home Companion. Their solo CD, "Nicolette Island Waltz," includes the title track and other selections for dancing and listening. Tjärnblom can also be heard on the first "Minnesota Fiddle Tunes Project" CD, a compilation recording of music of immigrants to Minnesota in the 19th century.
