Chuckanut Radio Hour featuring Serge Dedina, author of 'Surfing the Border'!
In his new book Surfing the Border, longtime surfer, conservationist and Imperial Beach Mayor Serge Dedina journeys into the world of surf culture and travels around the globe to highlight how surfing connects us to the scarce natural and cultural coastal niches that remain. Co-founder and executive director of WILDCOAST, an international conservation organization, Dedina has dedicated his life to protecting the coastline of California and Mexico. Serge Dedina is the author of Wild Sea: Eco-Wars and Surf Stories from the Coast of the Californias, Saving the Gray Whale and Surfing the Border. He is the co-founder and Executive Director of WiLDCOAST/COSTASALVAjE, an international organization that conserves coastal and marine ecosystems and wildlife. Since 1980, Serge Dedina has dedicated most of his time to protecting the coastal wildlands of the Californias. An award winning conservationists, he has successfully worked with fishing communities and grassroots organizations on both sides of the Mexico-U.S. border to preserve more than three million acres of globally significant coastal and marine habitats. The show will feature music from Dallas-based Singer-Songwriter Ashley Lynn.
The Chuckanut Radio Hour, a recipient of Bellingham's prestigious Mayor's Arts Award, is a radio variety show that began in January 2007. Each Chuckanut Radio Hour features a guest author and includes guest musicians, performance poet Kevin Murphy, Cascadia Weekly columnist Alan Rhodes, an episode of "The Bellingham Bean" serial radio comedy, and some groaner jokes by hosts Chuck & Dee Robinson and announcer Rich Donnelly. The Chuckanut Radio Hour's first guest was Erik Larson and has since included Alexander McCall Smith, Elizabeth George, Cheryl Strayed, Sherman Alexie, Tom Robbins and Garrison Keillor, among many others. The Radio Hour airs every Saturday evening at 6pm and Sunday at 9pmon SPARK RADIO, KMRE 102.3FM. Tickets for the Chuckanut Radio Hour are $5 and are available at Village Books and BrownPaperTickets.com. Doors open at 6:30pm, and you must be seated by 6:45pm as the show begins promptly at 7pm.
