Chuckanut Radio Hour featuring Korby Lenker, author of 'Medium Hero'!
Medium Hero is Korby Lenker's hilarious, poignant stream of consciousness, organized into 27 short stories inspired by his life as a traveling musician with a cat. From spontaneously forging a friendship with snake-handling pentecostals in the mountains to the shame of urinating on himself in a hipster coffee shop, there's nothing off limits here. Lenker also sheds light on the underbelly of making a living as a musician on the road, 300 days a year. Whimsical on one page, thought provoking on the next, this songwriter is making his mark in the literary world with this debut collection. Says tastemaker magazine No Depression, "One of the most striking things about seeing Lenker perform is his relationship with his guitar. He doesn't just play it, he becomes it - or maybe, it becomes a part of him." Korby Lenker - firstborn son of a mortician and a school marm -  is a skilled multi-instrumentalist and an award-winning songwriter.  He was born and raised in Twin Falls, Idaho, a mile from where Evel Knievel tried to jump the canyon on a motorcycle.  Korby was a member of the popular Bellingham band The Barbed Wire Cutters. He has since performed internationally and has shared the stage with such legends as Willie Nelson and Ray Lamontagne, as well as Nickel Creek, Tristan Prettyman, Susan Tedeschi, and many others. He recently acquired a tour partner, a black kitten named Dempsey. A longtime writer of fiction and memoir, Korby has written a book of short stories based on his fourteen years as a touring indie musician. In addition to being the featured author, Korby Lenker will provide music for the January 28th Radio Hour.

The Chuckanut Radio Hour, a recipient of Bellingham's prestigious Mayor's Arts Award, is a radio variety show that began in January 2007. Each Chuckanut Radio Hour features a guest author and includes guest musicians, performance poet Kevin Murphy, Cascadia Weekly columnist Alan Rhodes, an episode of "The Bellingham Bean" serial radio comedy, and some groaner jokes by hosts Chuck & Dee Robinson and announcer Rich Donnelly. The Chuckanut Radio Hour's first guest was Erik Larson and has since included Alexander McCall Smith, Elizabeth George, Cheryl Strayed, Sherman Alexie, Tom Robbins and Garrison Keillor, among many others. The Radio Hour airs every Saturday evening at 6pm and Sunday at 9pm on SPARK RADIO, KMRE 102.3FM. Tickets for the Chuckanut Radio Hour are $5 and are available at Village Books and BrownPaperTickets.com. Doors open at 6:30pm, and you must be seated by 6:45pm as the show begins promptly at 7pm. Co-sponsored by Whatcom Community College Foundation, 12th Street Shoes, and Westside Pizza.
