Cheese and Beer Pairing with Smog City / Vagabond Cheese
Event Time: Thursday 12/3 4pm-9pm
Here at Smog City, we believe in the outstanding food pairing possibilities of beer. One specific event that Porter has been requesting since we opened is a beer/cheese pairing. It took us some time to find the right partners but in Vagabond Cheese, we feel like we've found people who are as passionate and knowledgable about cheese as we are about beer.
After a pilot run throwing together some pairings around the taproom about a month ago, we determined that this partnership was going to be not only educational but a ton of fun!
Join us in our taproom for a fully immersive event. Because of the nature of Vagabond's business model, we will not have the list of beers/cheese pairings avaialble until the week prior to the event. Vagabond prides themselves on sourcing small batch artisan cheese makers which means then have ultra fresh and quickly rotating inventory.
So in the short term, we'll give you a run down of the layout. Details on the pairings will come as soon as we have them...just rest assured, we are looking for pairings that are, as we say, transformative. If you attended our Chocolate and Beer Pairing last year with Chocovivo, you'll know what we're talking about!
4 cheeses paired with 4 beers (5oz tasters), after our test run we have determined that we will definitely be using Single Barrel Bourbon O.E. as one of the pairings. Anticipate come exciting beers to be served alongside these outstanding cheeses!
There will not be a hard start and stop time, to avoid crushes of people at one time and over crowding in the taproom, this will be a self-guided tasting. We will provide tasting notes as well as hosting Vagabond Cheese's "Head Cheese", Alex Ourieff and Porter and Laurie to talk about the pairings individually. Most likely you already know about Smog City, but this is a first time for Vagabond Cheese, so there are more details below on the Vagabond Cheese Crew and what they do. ----------

Vagabond Cheese- Vagabond Cheese Company is dedicated to bringing artisanal cheeses to both those who have and have not yet had a mind-bending experience with a wedge of cheese. We aim to support small farmhouse producers who use traditional cheesemaking methods, especially those making raw milk cheese. We welcome you to have fun with cheese through creative pairings and experimentation. We prefer to live life like a vagabond: wandering, free from confines, and always in pursuit of deliciousness.
Alex- Alex Ourieff began working at the Artisan Cheese Gallery, in Los Angeles, in 2008. After starting in the kitchen, he discovered his love for artisanal cheese and soon became a cheesemonger and then cheese buyer. He has since held similar positions with an importer that focuses in European cheeses, and most recently, at Cowgirl Creamery in the Ferry Building Marketplace in San Francisco.
Alex started Vagabond Cheese Company to make encounters with exceptional cheeses more commonplace and more approachable than a cheese counter can often seem. He believes that cheese made by hand, and in small batches, is something that we should all be able to have on our dinner tables or with our next pint.
Justin- Justin Dolezal came to cheeses via the craft beer world. While working as a bartender, beer buyer, and general beer enthusiast for Buzz Wine Beer Shop, Justin began to put in time behind the cheese counter for Vagabond, and quickly fell in love with artisan cheese. The thought of beer and cheese without each other now offends him to the point of scoffing. Find his writing on beer and food online at foodabletv.com.
