Celebrating Billy Strayhorn
On Friday, November 20 at 8pm, the Nashville Jazz Workshop will present a special program to conclude the centennial celebration of the birth of the great jazz composer Billy Strayhorn.
The program will be presented by some of the Workshop's top students as a fundraiser to support the Workshop's classes and programs.
The first set will feature the Billy Strayhorn instrumental ensemble let by Denis Solee. Ensemble members are:
Rob Butts, piano Mike Duncan, drums Craig Dighton, bass Robert Barber, tenor sax Chase Coffey, trombone Greg Lewis, trumpet
The second set features the Strayhorn vocal class:
Vocalists: Joe Freel, Lynn Lewis, Scott Crowe, Debra Gayle, Lisa Taylor
Accompanied by: Lori Mechem (piano), Scott Chambers (bass), Ralph Henley (drums), Liz Johnson Schaffer (saxophone).
There will be two sets, beginning at 8pm. Tickets will be $20 for adults / $10 high school and college students with ID. They will be available for advance purchase on Monday, November 9 at 10AM. Tickets may be purchased online here, by phone 24/7 at Brown Paper Tickets (800-838-3006), or during daytime business hours at the NJW office (615-242-5299). A small convenience charge is added to online or 800-number purchases. Ticket sales are final.
Seating is reserved.Seating is a combination of 4-person tables and bar stools. SEE BELOW FOR A VENUE MAP. Parties of less than four may be seated at tables with other patrons.
Policies: The Jazz Cave is a BYOB establishment, with no alcohol or food service. You are free to bring alcoholic beverages and snacks. We sell soft drinks and bottled water. The Jazz Cave is a listening room, and we ask patrons to keep conversation to a minimum and silence cell phones.
