Film & Lecture with Amani Jabril - Reda Troupe Egyptian Films
Learn about the wonderful musical films of the Reda Troupe from the 1950s and 1960s. This Egyptian dance company revolutionized dance presentation and created films that are still beloved today!
Amani Jabril has studied extensively with Master Mahmoud Reda, legendary choreographer and founder of the Reda Troupe. Amani is also an anthropologist and college professor based in Atlanta, GA, who travels frequently to the Middle East.
She'll be bringing her knowlege to us, with a lecture/film night at Bright Star World Dance in Portland, ME. Showing clips from Reda Troupe musical films of the 1950s and 1960s, Amani will give us historical and cultural context to understand these remarkable creations.
