HOUSE OF SEVERAL STORIES - by A. John Boulanger - Venus/Adonis Theater Festival 2016
A family bound by the tradition of stories (and scotch) begins to unravel as their stories start to take on lives of their own. With martinis, mojitos and tequila slammers as their only weapons against their truths and/or lies, no one is safe this Thanksgiving in this House of Several Stories.

House of Several Stores, a tragedy in two acts of nonsense, is an absurdist comedy about a dysfunctional family and their unusual Thanksgiving guests. Welcome to 4309 Sunflower Lane, home of The Fullers. A family bound together by their tradition of stories...and scotch. Bastian returns home for Thanksgiving with news of joining the service. Mother suggests he simply join a gym. Bastian's news takes a backseat when his sister Rissa suddenly decides she's pregnant; and although not yet showing, she expects to deliver "any minute now". Both children are thwarted by Mother's news of a new, but older (and very reticent) brother, Thom, who has returned home from "some war". Things are further complicated with the arrival of the mysterious, young Abigail (slut) with a very telling tale of her own. This year, Thanksgiving is surely to be one for the storybooks, as the stories they once clung to begin to take on lives of their own. With martinis, mojitos and tequila slammers as their only weapons against their truths and/or lies, no one in this house is safe. And how does Abigail's baby end up in a stew pot? HOSS explores how stories help fill voids in people's lives caused by death, loss and dysfunction.
"One of the few examples of purely American absurdism...outside of Edward Albee." - Austin Chronicle
"An examination of dysfunction, perception and misperception, truth and/or lies, with all roads leading to life's perpetually unanswered question: What is real and true here?" - Austinist.com
"Boulanger [;...]; starts with loud chaos, exaggeration and absurdity and gradually endows his characters and story with humanity and depth. " - Austin Live Theatre
