Ceu LIVE at the RIO
The Rio Theatre, Night Heat Entertainment & The Georgia Straight present Ceu with special guest, Curamin, Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra & Sambata with David Love Jones DJ SET!
Grammy/Latin Grammy nominated, Six Degrees recording artist from Sao Paolo, Brazil, performs songs from her latest LP, Caravana Sereia Bloom.
The open road, the bohemian atmosphere, the existential mythology of travelthese were the visions in young Brazilian singer Céu's mind while creating her latest album. One of the most sonically adventurous artists in her country today, numerous road trips from her São Paulo home to Brazil's Northeast proved to be the perfect inspiration for this newest sonic adventure.
"CéU is the revelation of Brazilian music in 2005... CéU is the future of Brazilian Popular Music." Jornal do Brasil
"Light as a flower, the beautiful Brazilian CéU traces with her first CD an impressive sonic route between São Paulo, New York and Paris." - Le Monde de la Muisque (France)
"CéU bounds her musical references (soul, afrobeat, electro-jazz) with class and a voice with an incredible texture." - Vibrations (France)
Sambatá is an artistic community and social movement that brings people together through the power of collaborative expression, inspired by a passion for traditions of music and dance in Cuba and Brazil. We are both a percussion school that offers musical outreach programs to the public, and a performing ensemble that delivers high energy performances in parades, festivals and corporate events throughout the GVRD.
Led by Paul Bray and guest artists, Sambatá aims to create sustainable community connections and build cross-cultural awareness and respect. Since its inception in 2000, Sambatá has touched thousands of lives through our classes and workshops, cultural events and infectious spirit.
