Clone Records of The Netherlands has become a legendary organization in the electronic dance music world over the past 15 years. Clone was founded in Rotterdam as a record store in the mid-90s after Hotmix closed, and today is on the caliber of Hard Wax and Rub-A-Dub, but infused with it's own unique musical view that allows for thicker and sometimes warmer soulful sounds to come to the fore. Shortly before it was a record store, Clone was also a record label with the simple goal of entertaining themselves with the music they released. Clone began releasing freaky new music from then unknown Dutch artists, and eventually released Adult.'s iconic "Hand to Phone" picture disc and Drexciya's final album, amongst many other highlights. In early 2009, many music lovers' hearts sunk when we heard the news that the Clone label was shutting it's doors for good. However, a few months later, we were elated with the announcement that there were going to be at least seven Clone sub-labels popping up to pick up the slack. Since then, the quality and love put into both reissues and new material really outshines everyone else in techno, ranging from Dopplereffekt to Larry Heard to Italo Disco gems. Whatever trends come and go, you know that Clone is always finding startlingly good music that constantly reveals new things about the true sources of electronic dance music. In addition to it's already amazing online vinyl emporium, Clone has recently launched the Clone Digital download shop. For a nice introduction to Clone, you could do a lot worse than checking out RBMA's fireside chat with Serge.
Serge, owner and operator of Clone, is the hardest working man in Rotterdam. World reknown record store, multiple record labels, a distributorship, international DJ career, and a family. We have no idea how this man has time to have such good taste. Serge played a really magical DJ set at the No Way Back we threw with Interdimensional Transmissions in 2010, and also delivered on two separate occasions at Clone nights at The Bunker. Aside from appearing regularly at the best underground parties worldwide, Serge makes regular appearances at big clubs like Fabric, Panorama Bar, and Rex. The Clone empire simply would not exist without the vision and dedication of Serge.
We didn't know a whole lot about Dexter when we first booked him back in 2010, outside of the fact that he had released some of the sickest deep electro, acid, and techno records we've ever heard ... and we didn't need to know more than that to book him. As expected, his live set that night was phenomenal. Dexter has taken a strong influence from early hip-hop and electro, the first Detroit techno productions and his peers in the Dutch scene and created his own unique sound. He founded both the Klakson label and it's sublabel Dolly with Panorama Bar's Steffi.
Prosumer is a Panorama Bar resident, and tonight he will be playing a four hour set to close out the front room. Although he has slowly released a stream of amazing 12"s and even an album on Ostgut Ton with Murat Tepeli, he is more well known for his stunning DJ sets than anything. Prosumer simply GETS the art of DJing in a way that very few people ever have or will. Expect a skillful, emotional, perfectly programmed set full of some of the best house and techno you've ever heard. He's the kind of guy who will expertly read the crowd and give the party exactly what it needs at any given moment. His set at The Bunker Limited last year was one of the best DJs sets we've ever experienced.
DJ, Artist, and Remixer extraordinaire Fred P is the mind behind Black Jazz Consortium and the owner of Soul People Music. Recording for a wide range of labels, most notably DJ Jus-Ed's Underground Quality, Fred P has gained a following of true deep house lovers all over the world. In fact, he'll be joining us fresh off of a European tour that includes stops at Panorama Bar and Freerotation. Fred is a mysterious man of few words, choosing to let the deep personal vibe of his music speak for him. With such a prolific output of amazing music, it's clear that Fred has a lot to tell us, and you'll be hearing a lot more in years to come. Fred's previous sets at The Bunker and House-N-Home have included some of the deepest, most insane aquatic house music we've ever heard, alongside more straightforward dancefloor material. We're very excited to see where he takes us with a four hour opening set tonight.
