I AM A BOYS CHOIR, the interdisciplinary collective responsible for last year's mind- and muscle-bending So Long, Willy (Let's Go Home) at La MaMa, glides into JACK with a piece that is and is not about Tonya Harding and her relationship with the world of elite figure skating competitions. In or how i became an ice princess, collective members Chris DeVita, Adam Rigg and Kate D'Arcus Attwell delve into the body myth of the female athlete, the writings of philosopher and gender theorist Judith Butler, and the process of earning institutional validation by conforming to specific identity markers in regards to race, class, and gender. The company seeks to break open/down those monolithic, phallocentric structures and institutions; things that seem solid and permanent (capitalism, for one!), but upon closer inspection are actually flimsy and porous. Also: mini trampolines, blood feuds, sequins, jellyfish and Oksana Baiul!
