THE MUSIC & SOUL FILM SERIES - April 27 to 29, 2012
THE MUSIC & SOUL FILM SERIES started some years ago as a way of appreciating and enjoying music and films. With a combination of recent and less recent titles, the series presents a selection of fictions and documentaries in which music gets into you at many different levels.
The always entertaining 100% Arabica is a film that, in a comedic way, deals with religious extremism, political and religious corruption, and the music of two of the greatest rai musicians: Khaled and Cheb Mami are at the core of that story.
The Story of Lovers Rock, ADIFF 2011 Opening Night Film, is award winning director Menelik Shabazz's take on a music genre and issues of social change and identity in the UK in the 70's and 80's.
Round Midnight offers a story of friendship, human spirit and good music.
Maria Bethania was recently in the US and her performance at Miami Beach, FL was a tremendous success. Maria Bethania, Music is Perfume pays homage to the woman, the singer and her music.
The First Rasta, the story of Leonard "Gong" Howell, a film in which music, history, identity and social commentary come together as one powerful and poignant work of art.
Get your day pass for $20 or your weekend pass for $30.
