Chuckanut Radio Hour with Special Guest Mike McQuaide, 75 Classic Rides: WA
The Chuckanut Radio Hour is a radio variety show that began in January 2007. Each Chuckanut Radio Hour features a guest author and includes guest musicians, performance poet Kevin Murphy, Cascadia Weekly columnist Alan Rhodes, an episode of "The Bellingham Bean" serial radio comedy, and some groaner jokes by hosts Chuck & Dee Robinson and announcer Rich Donelly. The Chuckanut Radio Hour's first guest was Erik Larson and has since included William Dietrich, Elizabeth George, J.A. Jance, Sherman Alexie, Tom Robbins and Garrison Keillor, among many others. The Radio Hour airs every Saturday evening at 6pm and Sunday at 9pm on KMRE 102.3FM. This evening's musical guest will be the trio 3 Oh.
This month's special guest is Mike McQuaide, author of 75 Classic Rides: Washington: The Best Road Biking Routes. From a 50-mile route around Orcas Island or a family trip along Seattle's flat Burke-Gilman Trail, to a breathtaking climb up to Washington Pass from Winthrop -- if you're seeking the best road biking Washington has to offer, you can bet your bottom bracket you'll find it in 75 Classic Rides: Washington. 75 Classic Rides is a Mountaineers Books series authored by passionate local cyclists who've put thousands of miles on their bikes to bring you the very best road cycling routes across their given state. The focus is on one-day routes (a mix of loops and one-way courses), but you'll also find suggestions for link-ups and some inspiring, longer routes for touring, including at least one cross-state route. Terrain varies from flat paved trails to epic mountain challenges.
Mike McQuaide has written outdoor, travel, and lifestyle stories for Adventure Cyclist, Sunset, and Outside, and he is a frequent contributor to The Seattle Times "NW Weekend." The author of five other guidebooks on outdoor travel, McQuaide is an avid road cyclist and mountain biker, with a few Ironman triathlons under his bike chain, as well as a finish of the 200-mile "Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic" in a single day. Check out his adventures at www.mcqview.blogspot.com. McQuaide lives with his family in Bellingham.
Tickets for the Chuckanut Radio Hour are $5. Doors open at 6:30pm, and you must be seated by 6:45pm as the show begins promptly at 7pm. Co-sponsored by the Leopold Retirement Residence, 12th Street Shoes, the Fairhaven Village Inn, and the Mount Baker Bicycle Club.
