INDIA CURRENTS presents DEATH IN SAN FRANCISCO, a play by NAATAK
A quirky comedy about what it means for an Indian to die in America
Written and Directed by Sujit Saraf Produced by Asheesh Divetia
About the evening Join us in celebrating the 25th Anniversary of India Currents with the premiere of three special showings of a dark comedy, "Death in San Francisco", a play by Naatak. Complimentary Hors D'oeuvres and drinks will be served at all three showings. There will be an exclusive reception with the India Currents team on June 9. Proceeds from the three shows benefit Narika, a non-profit organization that promotes the empowerment of South Asian women to confront and overcome the cycle of domestic violence and exploitation.
About The Play Naveen Chandra Gupta of San Francisco has died, leaving behind an unusual request in his will: that he be cremated on the shore with the "proper rites and ceremonies", exactly as he cremated his father in India 30 years ago. As his friends struggle to honor his last wish, they learn a little about him, a little about themselves, and a lot about what it means for an Indian to die in America.
Sometimes sad and sometimes hilarious, this quirky comedy is Sujit Saraf's 9th play and these Silicon Valley shows are its world premiere.
Children under 10 will not be admitted.
