Beyond Basic Burlesque: About Face
From smiles that sparkle to glares that penetrate, this class will cover that most powerful of human communication devices - the face! 1 part makeup, 1 part dance, 100% fun, this class will cover 4 different styles of makeup paired with 4 different modes of facial expression with simple, highly expressive choreography. Combining Betty Blaize's classical Indian dance training, love of making funny faces, and years of experience in stage makeup, this class will help students develop a well-rounded tool kit of facial expression.
Class will cover these four looks and styles: - 1st week - Vintage Vixen - a 1940s Pin Up makeup style and a perky, patriotic choreography - 2nd week- Film Noir Siren - the classic 1920s pouty lips and smokey eyes, and a flirtateous and naughty choreography - 3rd week - Cabaret Temptress - the deliciously decadent look of a cabaret dancer, and a stark, sharp, downright dangerous choreography - 4th week - Exotic Minx - a pan-ethnic, Oriental makeover, and choreography filled with dramatic stylings and foreign appeal.
Each class will feature face warm-up, simple choreography breakdown focusing on head, hands and expression, and a makeover. Students will be given a makeup shopping list that will cover all four looks with annotations for each week's makeup.
