Mary Gauthier/Birds of Chicago
Mary Gauthier released her first album, Drag Queens and Limousines in 2001 to great acclaim. Since then she has toured with such greats as Willie Nelson and Guy Clark, and recorded a string of poetic and passionate discs. "Her songs are a...mix of half spoken, half sung talking blues," writes The London Times, often laugh out loud tales of addicts, victims and losers, of cheap motels and failed love affairs." On her most recent album, The Foundling, her first concept album, Gauthier explores the emotional journey and aftermath of finding the mother who abandoned her in New Orleans at birth.
Birds of Chicago is a duo project of Jeremy Lindsay of JT and the Clouds and Allison Russell of Po'Girl. Both bands have been visiting New Mexico and playing to enthusiastic crowds for the past 5 years, often sharing the stage. JT and Allison have taken their two unique styles and blended them into a highly original and beautiful new musical outing and they touring in support of their first CD together.
