German Cinema Now: Deutschland: Ein Sommermärchen/Germany: A Summer's Tale
Contemporary German films with English subtitles. FREE admission!
Has it really been 6 summers since soccer fever gripped Germany, and the nation united behind its team as it hosted the 2006 FIFA World Cup? Join us as we look back at one magical summer for Germany, as another is about to begin with EURO 2012, starting June 9.
Filmmaker Sönke Wortmann (The Miracle of Bern) was granted full behind-the-scenes access and his camera follows the German national team's World Cup 2006 journey, all the way from boot camp in Sardinia to the 3rd-place match. The film became the highest-grossing documentary in German film history.
Not only will you see the on-field exploits of Chicago Fire defender Arne Friedrich and stars like Klose, Podolski and Schweinsteiger, but also the hours of high-tech preparation by the players and coaching staff (led by current U.S. coach Jürgen Klinsmann) as well as all the "little things" that have to be decided--how DO you choose a team hotel anyway?
Never released theatrically in the U.S., Deutschland: Ein Sommermärchen is a rare opportunity to relive one of modern Germany's most important cultural moments.
Popcorn $2, Pretzel $2, Landjaeger $3. Cash bar. FREE parking at MB Financial Bank at Western and Gunnison
