Tour de Cluck: A Bicycle Chicken Coop Crawl!
Back by popular demand, the May 26, 2012 Tour De Cluck: A Bicycle Chicken Coop Crawl offers the chicken lovers and chicken curious among us the opportunity to visit a variety of our Davis, CA community's chicken coops by bicycle. Your participation benefits Davis Farm to School's work to support local food in a healthy school environment.
The coops featured will be presented as a self-guided tour of a plethora of poultry palaces throughout Davis, CA neighborhoods. You may visit the coops in any order and at your leisure 10am - 3pm. A map with all the details serves as your ticket and guides visitors safely from coop to coop via Davis's extensive network of bike paths and bike lanes. Note: The Tour de Cluck will take place RAIN or SHINE!
In addition to the egg-cellent Chicken Coop Crawl, The Tour de Cluck will once again celebrate our best local food purveyors at the tasty Fowl Food Fair at the renowned Davis Farmers Market 8am -1pm.
We thank Ken's Bike-Ski-Board for providing our signature Valet Bicycle Parking at Central Park and Rolling SAG support for visitors on the Coop Crawl! Get a flat? Call the number on your map!
It's never too early to begin practicing your cluck and cockle-doodle-do for the not-to-be-missed Community Kick-off Clucking Exhibition held on the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame "back porch", 9-10am. Claire Black Slotton, of First Street Real Estate and sponsor of the Kick-off, suggests you begin to form your flock now!
Also returning, the eggs-tremely popular Tour de Cluck Art Exhibit & Silent Auction presented by A Grand Affair in the white tent on the Central Park Green! Here you will find art created by some of our regions most sought after artists, as well as other unique chickens, barnyards and bicycles-themed items 9am - 2pm.
Tour de Cluck Chicken Skool will feature a variety of presentations throughout the day at several locations:
-- Davis Food Co-op is offering a "Building a Sustainable Lunch" presentation in the Davis Farmers Market's Fowl Food Fair, all part of a fun "Tour de Cluck To-Go" approach to your mobile dining while bicycling from coop to coop! Water bottles, reusable bags and utensils will be available for purchase to ease packing!
-- Davis High School's FFA Ag yard is the site of our Educational Clucksters offerings 10am - 3pm. Davis Farm to School, Davis High School FFA and local 4-H youth provide the scoop on nourishing the cycle from earth to table! There will be live animals so bring the kiddos!
-- Don't miss the Central Park Gardens exhibits! For the chicken-curious, there will be live chickens to aid your decisions about breed choices for your backyard coop!
-- A pair of coops on the crawl will also host. Modesto Milling's Grit, Scratch and Feed booth will address your feed questions and distribute samples of their fantastic organic feed for your flock. Farm Fresh to You will provide information about an approach to growing healthy food that nourishes both our bodies and the planet.
-- At Central Park, our partners, Cool Davis Initiative and Davis Bicycles!, will help your household fit the pieces together in a coherent plan to reduce your carbon footprint.
Out of town visitors, check in with the Hallmark Inn, Davis, Tour de Cluck's offical hotel! They have bicycles!
NOTE: Buy your tickets in advance: NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT.
Your online Will Call Tickets may be picked up at the Silent Auction tent at Central Park on the day of the event: 5/26 after 8 AM.
