In 2008, the city of New Orleans witnessed a remarkable event. The nine-term Congressman, William Jefferson, lost his seat to an obscure Republican candidate named Anh "Joseph" Cao. Thus begins the political paradox that is Representative Anh "Joseph" Cao the first Vietnimese American Congressman, grassroots activist and social progressive who believes in immigrant rights, gay rights, and government services for the poor, but who is an adamantly pro-life Catholic that allied himself with the Republican Party.
