The IRC has admitted more eagles to our wildlife hospital in the last three years than we have admitted in the last 23.
As Bald Eagle populations continue to recover there will be a need for wildlife rehabilitation centers to care for them, house them and provide sufficient flight cages for their rehabilitation and recovery. The Illinois Raptor Center is the largest raptor center in the state of Illinois and we are trying to prepare for the future - for these birds.
Phase 1 of Super Flight construction began in October 2015 with the help of Ameren Illinois who is furnishing the surveyors and setting the poles for the nearly 400ft long, 16 ft wide, and 16-20 ft tall flight facility. It will be the largest eagle flight in the Midwest.
Phase 2 of construction is to get the frame of the flight in place before bad weather hits. That will keep the poles from twisting without supports and enable us to start Phase 3 immediately in the spring. This cost of Phase 2 of the project will be in the range of $20,000.
We need everyone's help with this project. Any size donation is appreciated. If you don't think small things matter then you have never been in bed with a mosquito. Let's pull together and make this happen. Super Flight for a super bird!
