Science: Daniel Chamovitz: 'What a Plant Knows'
Wednesday, June 13 at 7:30 pm
From Darwin's early fascination with stems and vines to Little Shop of Horrors, humans always have marveled at plant diversity and form. Now biologist Daniel Chamovitz, author of What a Plant Knows, looks at how plants experience the world: How, for example, does a Venus flytrap know when to snap shut? How do flowers know it's spring? And do plants really prefer Led Zeppelin or Bach? Exploring the lives of all sorts of plants, Chamovitz draws parallels with the human senses to reveal that we have much more in common with sunflowers and oak trees than we may realize - so, is it too much to ask whether plants are aware? Presented as part of Seattle Science Lectures, with Pacific Science Center and University Book Store. Series sponsored by Microsoft. Series media sponsorship provided by KPLU.
