Drinking Lessons No. 23 Absinthe (Seating #1)
Absinthe is historically described as a distilled, highly alcoholic beverage. It is an anise-flavoured spiritderived from botanicals, including the flowers and leaves of Artemisia absinthium (a.k.a. "grande wormwood"), together with green anise, sweet fennel, and other medicinal and culinary herbs. It is commonly referred to in historical literature as "la fée verte" (the green fairy). Although it is sometimes mistakenly referred to as a liqueur, absinthe is not traditionally bottled with added sugar, and is therefore classified as a spirit. Drinking Lesson to feature:
Trillium Absinthe: One of the first legally produced absinthe's in the United States and is from Integrity Spirits in Portland, Oregon. Integrity uses grande wormwood, or artemesia absinthum, the classic absinthe secret ingredient.
Pacifique Absinthe: Distilled in Woodinville, Washington, Pacifique Absinthe Verte Superieur is carefully crafted in exact accordance with an 1855 French recipe and distillation process. Pacifique is made with the finest spirits and organic botanicals available, accurately representing the style of fine absinthe available in 19th Century France.
Lucid: A traditional, French-made absinthe verte (green absinthe), whose formula was first approved in 2006. Lucid is the first genuine absinthe made with real Grande Wormwood to be legally available in the United Stated in over 95 years. Lucid is made with a full measure of Grande Wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) as well as other fine European herbs.
Guests can expect an animated 1 hour lesson in the preparation and history of Absinthe cocktails from leading bartenders, drink historians and quality distillers, plus a few bites from the Hunt Club kitchen. Sessions at 6pm or 8pm and limited to 12 seats.
