Heather Keizur in concert
Portal Players Dramatic Society proudly presents ADSS graduate Heather Keizur as she returns home to the Capitol Theatre! You sense the influences: Edith Piaf, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday but the voice you hear is all Heather Keizur: nuanced, expressive, utterly unforgettable singing in English and French. Heather a Portland, Oregon resident, grew up in British Columbia. She will stir Northwest jazz lovers in homecoming appearances surrounding Canada Day in Nanaimo and Port Alberni, BC in addition to a performance in Port Townsend, Washington.
Keizur's 2010 CD, "J'ai Deux Amours" showcases a mature talent equally at ease with jazz standards and French chansons. Listeners will hear "La Vie en Rose" as the song's creator, Piaf, truly intended. Heather also extends the reach of tunes by Burt Bacharach and Stevie Wonder.
Heather's live performances give new urgency to the music of Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer and the Gershwins. Homecoming audiences will hear that full force. Heather discovered her passion as a BC school girl and made her singing debut age 11-- at her school's talent contest. From there, it was jazz, country and pop in different combinations for more than two decades. Heather took a hiatus from performing to raise her two daughters. During this time Heather opened a Montessori school in Oregon and earned an honor's degree in French.
Heather appears with renowned pianist, composer and arranger Steve Christofferson. In a career spanning more than three decades Steve performed in music festivals around the world, and toured with Nancy King, Mia Nicholson and the Alan Jones Sextet. Steve plays the piano and the melodica on Heather's CD.
She is described by fellow jazz musician Tom Grant in this way: "Whether singing in English or French, this dazzling vocalist projects the inner beauty of herself and the song she sings, straight to the heart of the listener."
Heather Keizur: jazz beautifully sung, with French confections on the side. www.heatherkeizur.com
