Dala at the Homegrown Coffeehouse
Amanda Walther and Sheila Carabine of Dala ( the duo's name was formed by combining the two last letters of each artist's name) have come a long way in a short time. The two best friends and darlings of the Canadian music scene, who met in high school and wrote their first song together in 2002, have since toured North America extensively. Juno nominees in 2011 and winners of the 2010 Canadian Folk Music Award for Vocal Group of the Year, Amanda Walther and Sheila Carabine of Dala write and sing in harmony best described as angelic. Amanda's ethereal soprano voice blends seamlessly with Sheila's velvety alto, creating the lush harmonies that have become their trademark. The sheer joy with which they perform is infectious, turning first-time listeners into instant fans. Dala were honored by being the only Canadian act invited to play at the 50th anniversary of the famed Newport Folk Festival, where they were the smash surprise hit. Opening will be a rising talent on the New England folk scene, Margaret Sargent, who currently splits her time between her hometown of Needham, MA and her adopted home of Waterville, ME. Dala at the Homegrown Coffeehouse, Saturday, May 19, at 8:00 P.M.
The Homegrown Coffeehouse is located at the First Parish Unitarian Church, at the corner of Great Plain and Dedham Avenue in Needham center. There is free parking and full handicapped accessibility. Admission is $18.00 / $15.00 students & seniors to benefit the Church.
