The Art of Physics & Comedy: Simple Machines & Kids in Motion
An all-family camp with Vashon Island teacher Barbara Gustafson and Island artists, exploring the physics of simple machines and comedy. Inspired by the great classic clowns Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin, we'll build interactive ramps, pulleys, levers and more - and then use them to make comedy scenes come alive. Parents and grandparents are encouraged to participate - this is going to be fun!
Each morning students learn basic physical science principles while designing, building, and testing models of simple machines and pendulums. They will learn about the forms of energy, the Law of Conservation of Energy, forces, momentum and Newton's Three Laws of Motion. In the afternoon participants will work with physical comedy professionals and use the machines to create and perform classic comedy scenes. Camp runs daily from 10:00am to 2:00pm, July 16 - July 20, 2012.
One adult, per child, may attend free of charge.
Fee does not include food; please bring a sack lunch each day.
Early registration ends June 30th. Registration fee will be $225 after June 30th. All registration ends July 9th.
